The other morning I read in my quiet time with God Matthew chapters 26-28. It had been a long time since I had quietly on my own, just me and God read through the whole account of Jesus at the last supper, His agony in the garden of Gethsemane and His suffering, death, and resurrection.
You know some things that really hit me that morning was how loving Jesus is with His disciples whom He knows are about to all forsake Him, for Peter, deny Him, and for Judas betray Him.
You know the fact that Jesus knew everything that was coming an yet pressed on boldly forward is true Heroism. In the world we are always looking for a hero. Someone who is always strong, faces danger head on and rescues those He loves. No one fulfills this picture like our Savior. He truly is the ONLY HERO!
You know at any moment, Jesus could have requested of His Father, and He would have given Him more than twelve legions of angesl all fighting for Him and the pain would all be over just like that (in the blink of an eye). He is the Son of God and He holds that power.
But Jesus didn’t do that. He said “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?”
That’s where we see the depth of Jesus’ heart. He could get out of the pain, ridicule, torture, and death at any moment but He chose not to. Why? Because He loves His Father so much and because He loves us so much.
He knows that God’s holy and righteous wrath against sin must be satisfied and that the only One Who can pay that price is Himself. Why? Because He is the only One Who lived a perfect life and could stand before God on our behalf and make an atonement for us.
The only other way was for Jesus to leave us justly condemned to die and spend eternity in hell paying for our sins (which is what we deserve) but He didn’t do that because of His love.
What an amazing Savior we have! Jesus said, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. That is a HERO. That is our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, the Living God.

Let us live each day “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

It is so amazing that the story doesn’t end with that greatest act of love when Jesus died for us, but that it continues – Jesus rises from the dead conquering death and the grave! Then forty days later He ascended up to heaven to be at God’s right hand as our Advocate. And He is coming back to gather us who trust in Him to live with Him forever!!27511befd3b76a643aafbd7a0de724a7--ocean-sunset-the-ocean

May we all put our trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ and always be looking forward to that day when we shall see His face and every knee will bow and every tongue proclaim Him Lord to the glory of God the Father. For He is Lord of lords and King of kings and He is worthy! Thank you Lord Jesus!
